This ship and I have some history together although I have never boarded her. When I was assigned to the USNS Kawishiwi T-AO 146 in San Diego we went out to refuel the Indy while she was acting as the location ship for Flight of the Intruder . The trailers housing the movie equipment and stars dressing rooms could be clearly seen in the hanger bay. Now the IMDB states the movie was released in 1991 actual filming took place in 1990 sometime before I had my knee accident. The other bit of personal history took place when I was aboard USNS Guadalupe T-AO 200 in 1994 when we called on Hong Kong. My niece Marsha and her Beau at the time were dropping me back off at the fleet pier after our dinner at Jumbo restaurant in Aberdeen Harbor. My niece gave me a great big hug and kiss and to top it off I was dropped off in what many Americans consider to be a luxury car. You can see Marsha on the family page, understand that my wife is the baby of the family and Marsha and she grew up together. At any rate we made some of those Indy sailors a little bit envious. These were the perks of being married to my wife. In those days I had family in Hong Kong, Manila, Cebu City and even one cousin of my nieces Ruby and Jen in Dubai.
